Report: Pelicans’ Dejounte Murray broke hand in opener

Dejounte Murray broke his left hand throughout his New Orleans Pelicans debut on Wednesday, ESPN reported.

The 28-year-old guard produced 14 factors, 10 assists and eight rebounds because the Pelicans beat the visiting Chicago Bulls 123-111. The harm apparently occurred with 2:21 to play within the fourth quarter and New Orleans up by 12.

Murray tried a 3-pointer, was fouled by Zach LaVine and fell to the ground. He seemed to be in some discomfort as he was helped up — by his proper arm — then went to the foul line and made 2 of three makes an attempt.

Murray was substituted out of the sport with a minute left and the Pelicans main by 15. He didn’t communicate with reporters postgame.

“Hopefully, he isn’t out too lengthy,” Pelicans guard CJ McCollum stated. “He checked out me and stated his hand did not really feel proper. He simply continued to play. … He battled by, he performed and performed nicely contemplating these circumstances.”

Murray began for New Orleans and performed half-hour in his first sport since he was acquired from Atlanta in a July commerce. The Hawks acquired Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, Larry Nance Jr., Cody Zeller and two first-round draft picks.

The Spurs chosen Murray within the first spherical of the 2016 draft out of the College of Washington, and he remained in San Antonio by the 2021-22 season — his solely All-Star marketing campaign.

He was dealt to Atlanta in July 2022.

Final season, Murray averaged a career-high 22.5 factors to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists. In 473 profession video games (402 begins), he has averages of 15.4 factors, 5.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds.
